    Excuse my lack of knowledge but what would you use muriatic acid for in a fish tank? I know in a swimming pool we use it to bring down the pH do you also use it the same way in a fish tank?

    No, in this instance it's used to clean up live rock. You put the rock in a vat with about 10% muriatic for 10 minutes and it eats off all the waste. Some people use it to remove bound phosphate, which is bound in a crystalline matrix with calcium.

    Also used for recharging DI resin and can be used to with recharging gfo to get the ph down before disposing waste water.
