AquaC EV-240 Skimmer Questions....

Well, seems I have a slight design error in my sump...  well to make a long story short I didn't intend on having as large a skimmer as I now have but the price was right.  I designed my sump and the height of the stand based on the EV-180 so now I have a problem with the ev-240.  That said if I lower the baffles a couple inches in my sump there won't be any problem its just going to be a pain in the a$$.
My Questions is how important is the placement of the gate valve above the water line in my sump?  can it be just below the water or do I NEED to keep it above the water line?

Hey Gb, the experiences i have had with the Aquac is that if the gate valve is underwater, and the water level is not kept 100% consistent it drops the efficiency of the skimmer. And even if it is, sometimse it places back pressure on the skimmer and changes where the water level would run if it were above the water. Air pockets can get stuck in it if it's completely submerged and cause sudden bursts of skimming and thus over/underskim. Personally I would raise it above (unfortunately, it would be a pain in the YA).

Thanks for the help.... I was afraid of that. I will have to change the baffles around and its not going to be fun since I can no longer get my sump out of the stand, at least it an inexpensive fix.

Why don't you just put a few pieces of egg crate under it to raise it up?

The skimmer itself hits the top of the stand...  I measured for a EV-180 and left plenty of room but not enough for a EV-240.  So about the only option is to lower the water level in my sump.

Are your baffles acrylic or glass? If they are acrylic just bust out the dremel and hack em out. Easy as pie.

They are glass... well were glass, now they are trash, I am going to stop by lowes and get some more glass cut and I will be set.
