I got the Aqua Illumination units and controller this week and had time to install it today. I thought it was going to be a big deal since there are few instructions included with the units, but it's really much easier than I had expected. The light is beautiful! I'm only running at about 50% right now. I don't know how fast I should increase the percentage, but I think fairly quickly since my tank had lots of light before. No heat issues, and that's nice. Very happy with my purchase.

Those lights are awesome. I plan to replace my halides with them as soon as I have the funds...

What size tank are you running them on? What inhabitants (lps, sps...)?

I have them on a 58. Two modules and the AI controller. Mostly sps.

I just installed a unit a couple weeks ago as well. My only issue is the controller. You are suppose to press the knob to select but I have to really rap the knob hard with my knuckle to select anything. Very aggravating. Other than that, I love the light. Very quiet and no heat! Do you have any problem with your controller?

My controller works easily. I'd send them an email and let them know how yours is working. Mine just make a little click sound.

The only thing I would improve on the controller is to have each turn of the knob click. It would make it more efficient when selecting your settings.

I have a question for those of you who have the AI LED's...

If I wanted to replace 3 250W MH 14K pendants on a 72" system, what AI components would I need to buy?

I have two on 36 inches, and that's just right. I think you'd want to talk to Flyingmoray to get the best info.

If your tank isn't very deep, you might be able to turn the lights length wise and use 4 of them. I am sure 6 in the correct orientation would be optimal though.

you realize that those lights are not even CE or UL listed? As a journeyman electrician i wouldn't install anything manufactured that was not a certified or a listed device. Anyone can say they meet requirements, but not anyone can have their product certified or listed. I feel that it is too much liability for such an expensive piece of equipment and hobby this is. I also knew that if you did not register your lights with AI that they would not recognize the warrantee. Just a heads up.

Are you sure of that? They box says that they meet requirements/limits of UL, CE & RoHS.

    I did register them online.

Maybe our resident AI employee can get us some answers on these questions...Joe?

Jim, I am glad to hear you got everything setup without trouble. Please remember to take it slow when increasing the intensity of the lights. Whenever you switch the type of lighting on corals (especially for LEDs) it can be stressful for the corals. Just remember to take it slow.

JB, what are the other dimensions of your tank? Rotating the modules actually doesn't change the spread very much. The modules have lenses designed to make the spread a uniform circle under the module.

The power supplies that are used for the AI Sol are CE and UL listed as well as numerous marks in various countries. While warranty registration is appreciated, if the product needs service within the 1 year period we've never denied service.

    Joe,

My tank is your basic 6' 125 (18" deep). It has 2 braces, so there are 3 "sections" that have to be lighted. All of the 72" setups I've seen listed have 6 modules which is pretty pricey. If I could get by with 3 modules (at least to start) it would be a lost less painful to the pocketbook.

Hey Joe! I started day 1 at 50%. I boosted them up to 55% today. Too fast? I was thinking about boosting 5% per day. I'm not sure I'll need to get to 100%.

Jim are using the legs or do you have them hanging? i am using legs and have mine set at 75%

Ronron, i have the opposite problem with my controllers. mine hang on a door and if the door closes too hard it resets them all to manual. So i have to be careful on how i close the door....

Mine are hanging in my hood. I'd like to get them just a bit higher though. I'm going to look for some shorter SS cable.
